Question:
My 90 Geo prizm is giving me some trouble with the power. In the morning or after a long rest, the car first does not seem to power up. the key starts it fine, but when I press on the gas pedal, nothing happens at first, it takes the car about 20 mn before I can get it to respond when I push on the pedal. Now once it goes, the first mile is a hell, if I am attaking a hill, forget about it. Also, It's easier to accellerate when going downhill, and after an hour drive, it seems to be ok, although the car seems to constantly struggle to keep up with traffic.
How come automatics can sit at a red light holding the brakes, but a manual can't?
However lately, it just does not advance pretty much at all. The exhaust noise is incredible and when I push on the gas, the sound is further up (believe it or not) without much change on the car, which barely advances.
how can i fix fiat bravo wheel spacing and brake disc my self .?
I changed the spark plugs, rotor and other wires as in a tune-up, put some cleaner in the car, to no avail. Also the car drinks an enormous amount of gas. Does anybody know what might be at fault here?

how to know your tyre pressure?
Assuming you replaced the ignition cap as well, Sounds to me like you might have a bad coil or ignition module. You can go to the auto parts store and buy a spark tester, or you can kinda fudge one by taking a spark plug and a wire and grounding to the chassis while the engine is running. (don't do this unless you have some electrical and mechanical knowledge as I wouldn't want you to get hurt). If the spark is not bright and blue it means there is a problem with your ignition system. More often then not it is the ignition coil, but occasionally it is the ignition module. Call around some auto parts stores will test the ignition module and coil for free. If not you should be able to use an ohms meter to test the coil Resistance to see if it is good.well, it sounds like something is making it choke up, have you had the catalyst converter checked? Sometimes they collapse and make it hard for the car to release the exhaust and it keeps it from having any power at all. This may not be your issue but I had one collapse on a car of mine and it acted similar to what you say yours is doing.
Good luck!
how much does a power-steering pump for a 92 explorer cost??
Did you change the air cleaner? As a dirty air cleaner will act like the car is in full choke. Also the previous answer is a good place to look. Check your exhaust pressure by placing you hand over the tail pipe with the engine running at idle. You should feel a good pressure, but be careful not to burn you hand if the tail pipe is hot, use a glove or something to temporarily protect your hand. If very weak you have an exhaust restriction that needs to be eliminated so your engine can breathe.More Questions & Answers ...
