Other than mileage statements, warranty document and VIN number reports, is there an other way of knowing if the odometer has been altered on my car? For example, would my car's onboard computer record a odometer reset has been done?

Most cars can be altered so that no one will ever know that it has been done. All you need to do is hook up through the diagnostic port to quickly alter mileage stored in speedometer or ecu or body control modules.

Some cars you must remove the cluster to alter mileage. this may leave a trail of service when the ic is removed or unsoldered.
it is very hard to detect fraud on a digital instrument for the average person. It would need to be checked by a professional like me in speedometer repair.

You can't.Is it possible to put a 350 from an 89 Caprice into an 87 Cutlass?
no way to alter a digital odometer, the only way to fraud an odometer reading is to unplug the vss (vehicle speed sensor) on the transmission, or to change the pcm (power train control module) witch is the vehicles computer and has to be reprogrammed to that vehicle by a certified tech with a re programmer.(very expensive) most people would not go through that king of trouble to alter an odometer reading.Once the odometer is set with a number it can not go back, even if its set with a scan tool hook up. Its just one of the designs of it. There is no access into a digital odometer to change the number without changing the entire instrument cluster, then by going off of milage statments, warranty documents, VIN reports, and whatever else, you will be able to tell. The only odometers you can set back are the ones that were analog. I know, I had to do that, when the odometer in my car died and bought a used one. Other then going off of what you know, its absolutly impossible to tell if its been changed, as for digital, impossible to change without replacing the cluster.
Where can I find a parts list for aFord 2.0 ZETEC?
I'm pretty sure for BMWs, once you hook up the Original BMW computer tester kit, you will be able to tell the actual mileage on the car and any modification done on the odometer. Not too sure about other vehicle type but I think same principle can apply to cars that has a computer tester kit set for digital odometer ....More Questions & Answers ...
