How do i replace the block heater plug??

Question:
It seems my block heater isnt turning on when i plug my car in. I took a look at the end on the cord and its in pretty bad shape. Just wondering what the proper steps are to replacing it. Im not a genius with cars but i know my way around under the hood. And dont want to waste the money taking it to my mechanic that charges an arm and a leg just becuase it is a Honda and i dont like letting anyone else touch my car.

You need to go to a hardware store and buy a three prong male plug rated for outdoor use.
Cut off the old plug on your car and replace it with the new one. Your block heater cord will have three wires, one of them green. Strip about a quarter inch of it so that the copper is exposed.
Open up the new plug you bought and spy out the green terminal and connect the green wire to that terminal.
Do the same for the remaining two wires on block heater cord and then reassemble the plug. Don't forget to slide the plug body over the bock heater cord before you start stripping the wires. Once the wires are connected to the terminals in the plug, slide the plug body up over the connections and assemble the plug body to the plug. After you are done, plug in the block heater and leave it for 5 or 10 minutes. Then open up the hood and listen for any gurguling sounds from the engine. If it gurgules, the block heater element is working. If not, check the terminal connections in your new plug again and if they are good you need either a new block heater cord or a new block heater element.

If the wires are just getting frayed, I would cut off the damaged area, strip them back and splice them with some wire nuts. If it won't reach to plug in, you might have to add some extra wire.

If it is totally screwed, I would check with junk yards, either get the wire/plug, or the whole unit.
