All 4 windows on my '86 560 SEC Mercedes quit at once?

I checked the fuse and it's good. I also checked the console switches and swapped them out with known good ones and that wasn't it. Does anyone know about the relay that controls the windows? Or have any other suggestions as to what it might be? Thanks in advance for your input!

I have a MB W126 like yours, but it is the 2 door coupe. Did you replace the fuse or just look at it? The fuses in the W126 have a habit of looking OK but actually being blown.

The windows work with a door open but not closed if the ignition is off. Turn the ignition on and the windows work with the doors closed. You probably knew that. Do the windows work from the switches by the rear seats? There is a lock-out button on the coupe which stops them from working, probably for the sake of small children.

When the passenger side window on my coupe would go down but not up, I found that the switch was OK, just full of dust. You can pull them apart and clean them, it is easier than you might think. Turn upside down over a towel or soft rag to catch small parts and spread the sides until the rocker disengages. Clean contacts and put back together.

I don't think there is a relay, I think the switches are directly wired because I never hear a relay click and the switches give a healthy spark which is visible in the dark. But your car might have a relay, if it exists in your car (mine's an '83) will probably be in the fuse box, one of the silvery boxes.
