Question:
I tried to clean my alloy wheels and the cleaning agent corroded some of the clear overcoat on the rims. Now, those spots are white rather than shiny. What should be the most economical way to fix this problem? Should I buy a clear coat for the rims? If so, which brands? Where can I buy them?

ok number one clear coats as in automotive paints do not stick to bare metal. if anyone says they do they should be a chemist and can be an overnight billionar. this is why chrome paint was invented (you have to clear over that) white spots this can be alot of things from residue build up from the detergent u use to wash your car o salt (if your area of th4 country salts there roads in winter) to the starting of corrosion. first get a soft bristle brush and some soap and water and get a good rag. scrub scrub scrub. now if this doesnt take care of it then try a nap or something and get a solvent based cleaner and scrub again (make sure u have gloves on) if all of this doesnt work you can take ur rims to a detail shop and have them buffed out (these guys will sand polish all that but it may cost you). now this might take some time to do (a couple weekends). now very important you will have to have the metal sealed (this is that clear coat your toalked about) this sealant isnt an automitive paint so dont take it to a body shop. alot of them will screw you and just clear them and charge you a crap load to do it. there should be a company that polishes metal in your area they will be able to polish it out and give you the info FOR YOUR area of how to best protect your rimsMore Questions & Answers ...
