Question:
water was leaking car shut down boiling, runs fine when cold, heats up and idles rough but seems ok under load. Plugs all light brown, cyl4 darker but still brown on tip. no bubbles apparent in water, no water apparent in oil. Bit of white smoke from exhast when revved hard. I assume the gaskets blown but before I pull the head.....any other procedures I can do or problem it could be?
Answers:
Car won't start. Is it the starter?
yea, pull the head, get it resurfaced and checked for cracks. These straight 6's are tough as mules. probably just a head gasket!Take out the spark plug #1 have it at top dead center attach an air line through the spark plug hole with a pressure gauge attached. If the Gauge reads 20 lbs then it should remain at 20 lbs until you release the pressure. If it drops then you know you either have a blown or leaking head gasket which is the the same as blown. This would be correct is if you already have put a peace of stiff paper on the exhaust pipe extended from the tail pipe of the Vehicle and checked for bad Valves. Another way to check bad valves is to remove the coil wire from the coil and turn the Vehicle over and if it turns over in unison then it's fine, but if it turns over out of unison then you have a dropped, bent, valve.
