I have a 2001 Ford Taurus. I just went to leave and take it to the shop to get new tires and an oil change and when I tried to start it, it rolled over and the radio came on like it was going to start and as soon as I stopped pushing the key forward it died but the radio stayed on. Does anybody know why? Could this be a battery problem or possibly the oil? I am past due for an oil change which is why I was taking it there now. Any help?

No an oil change has nothing to do with your vehicle not starting. First I would tell you to turn the key on to the point your radio comes on and then turn the radio off. Next try to start the car and see if it cranks, in other words, you hear it trying to start. then place another post.can u help me i need to know how to fit a fan belt on a sprinter 312 van?
Ok.... If you need to hold the key to keep the starter turning for the engine to "run" then you may be out of gasoline, it is NOT the battery. Have you checked your gas gauge? If that isn't the issue then there might be a firing problem or no spark.
Have your battery, sounds like to me you need to have it replaced

It may have flooded.i think that you should chech the engine and may be that battry is down just don't give more money to the workers they will take lot of money..................

It is not the oil. It could be the battery as the radio requires little power from the battery to stay on. Based on your description I can't really tell. It sounds like the starter is not turning over any more because the battery is dead. Is it making a clicking sound when you turn the key now or nothing at all. If the battery is original to the 2001 car it is likely the problem. You could start there as a new battery from Walmart is about 40 bucks. It could also be the starter or solenoid for the starter. The starter is the motor that starts or turns over your engine they do fail eventually. The solenoid is what engages the starter motor to the engine so it will turn over.good luck
can't tell by what you say here . if it wont start with a jump .check the anti theft system ,or emergency shut off switch .
solenoid, could be at fault . if the battery is run down ,and still takes a fair charge ,your starter could need to be replaced as well as possibly the battery depending on how long the starter been dragging on itself .

does your ins. have road side ? you should have it diagnosed ,get a readout from the on board system .the computer remembers what stoped working .

If its turning over then IT IS NOT THE BATTERY you could be out of gas or you may have water in the gas or you have a dirty fuel filter If it was running fine the other day then it has nothing to do with your plugs and wires Dont get me wrong having those replaced is a damn good idea Also did you piss off anybody in the last couple of days cause they could have put sugar in your tankMore Questions & Answers ...
