Is it hard to change the steering column in a Ford Windstar?

Question:
Trying to decide to pay the $312 to have the dealership fix the problem or do it myself! The rod that runs between the tumblers and ignition cylinder is broken. I can buy a whole steering column for $80. Suggestions and help appreciated!
