I forgot to tighten it back in the other today. I was looking at engine today and saw this and it was a little loose so i tightened it back up. I just want to know what would have happened if that side actually fully disconnected.

Usually nothing major. The biggest possible problems are ingesting dirt into the motor, there's a lot between that hose and the motor for it to collect into anyways so its probably not a huge concern. The other problem you can have is many newer cars use an aifrlow meter between the filter and that hose, if the hose is fully disconnected its possible your car won't run very well at all because the air meter can't do its job. Ussually at best you can drive city street speeds with a lot of hesitation and problems, so that's probably the biggest reason to keep an eye on these hoses so you don't get stuck with a car that barley runs somewhere, or take the apropriate tool (ussually a screwdriver) in your glove box just in case. was it all the way off? the air filter cleans out all of the bad particles that go into your engine..at the most some particles may have entered your engine.. i dont think you had it off long enough to do much harm.. you may have experenced some backfires thoughnothing too bad if it was this way for only a few days. think of it this way... basically you were driving without an air filter for a few days... yea some dirt/debris/oil might have gotten into your engine, but not enough in a few days to do any real damage...

Some possible problems that may develop are getting foreign objects in to the combustion chamber, which could cause some minor and major issues.
