Can I use Dexron III, rather than Dexron II, in my Mercruiser Mag 350 270HP Inboard Ski Engine AutoTrans?

Question:
The Automatic transmission fluid calls for Dexron II, however the boat is a 2000 Calabria Inboard Ski, so Im wondering if Dexron III is now the standard ATF? What is the difference?

what is a power of reverse gear ? is it equal to 1st, or 2nd or 3rd or 4th or 5th?

I already replaced the AT with Dexron III, and have not used the boat since, as this was part of the winterizing process. But then I realized the manual calls for Dexron II...and I already replaced wtih Dexron III...

What's wrong with my car?

Is it ok to use the Dexron III where it calls for Dexron II, or should I remove the ATF and replace with Dexron II? If so, what harm can be caused by using Dexron III rather than Dexron II?

dexron III is the same as dexronII except it meets higher standards. it will work fine in all aplications that require dexron or dexronII.

First thing I would do before I drained and wasted the dexron lll out, I would call a parts store and talk to someone that would know, and can possibly look it up for you. They should be able to tell you if the dexron lll is a compatible replacement to dxron ll. If they can't give you an absolute answer, call another another parts store. If you are absolutely not comfortable with any of the replies drain the dexron lll and replace it with dexron ll like the manual says to use. I would never gamble with such a high cost item, and would never want to wonder if I did the right thing with the right fluid. I do know this, each fluid is designed with a particular use, and each transmission is designed for a particular fluid. Hope this helps you out.
