tac and speedometer gauge went out then stereo power kept switching on/off. slowly started losing power in car, then engine started choking i could smell something burning. turned car off and wouldn't start up again. Not the starter cause it cranks it just wouldn't start up. Temp and gas gauge still works just fine. All engine fluids were just checked and still at good levels. A few days ago my check battery indicater was going on and i replaced the battery, but the indicater still stayed on, I checked contacts for battery looks clean and in good condition

it's your alternator. i had the same problem even though i recharged my battery, then it drained, then recharged it. if your alternator is bad it just drains all your battery when your car is on. your spark plugs get their power directly from the battery which in turn drains all the power out of your battery. one most likely thing would be the belt of the alternator missing. maybe it just got worn out and broke off. check1995 Grand Prix hood release won't work?

My first guess would be a short in the electrical system, since it killed your car while running.My next guess would be a bad alternator, since the problem seems to have to do with not being able to maintain sufficient charge in the electrical system, but that wouldn't explain the burning smell, necessarily.

Its possible the alternatior was over charging the battery, thats what put the battery light on. Changing the battery didnt solve the problem and the over charging continued untill it burned out the most sensitive circuit,'that burning smell' .The fact that the starter is still turning over the engine means the battery is full of life. Overcharging is the most likely fault.You will need an good electronics tech to get things going again.but you may be lucky..there may be a blown fuse somewhere. Get the alternator checked when you get it going againthe alternator is what is causing all your problems

its the alternater,electronics in that car will go nuts if the battery goes dead.you put in a new battery and it started right --but it stalled again.the alternater isnt putting a charge back in the battery and the car quits when the battery goes dead.It will run as long as theres a charge in the battery but will stop in time when it looses charge.Go to a part store and have the alternater checked I'll bet thats the problemTwin Counter Shaft Transmissions w/clutch brake.?
