Need help from a toyota tercel expert or any good mechanic

how much is an alternator in uk pounds?

I have toyota tercel 91 4 gear (I know its old). The problem that it is having is when i hit the clutch and start the engine, the engine starts to make noises as if it is loosing cluctch and the engine then shuts off. When i run the car to acclerate it accelerates very slowly and shuts off. Do you think it is a clutch problem or is something with the spark plugs or what else can be the reason for this?
