only notice it if it is stuck open. then it acts like a small/medium vacuum leak (rough idle)EGR valves go bad all the time, on ford's its the DPFE sensor that goes bad or EGR sensor the parts store calls it. what it does is to recirculate 10% of the exhaust gases back into the combustion chamber to help cool and regulate the intake manifold temps and prolong engine life. when they go bad or STICK in postion the car at idle and slow acceleration will shudder and shake like the car is misfiring. if u mash the gas down the car should accelerate like normal. if the valve is stuck far enough open the car might not even run take to a shop have them put a scan tool on it and check it out u can also unbolt the valve and clean it with brake clean and clean all the carbon build up out of the passage to the intake as well usually carbon build up causes them to stick the best way to prevent them from sticking is to take the car out and open up on the highway for 10 to 15 miles accelerating from 65 to 85 at wide open throttle
