Its a 90's car.. A jeep cherokee. My car does not turn on. First I though I was low in gas. But thats not it. I don't think its the battery. Do you think its because I left the car with out a cap?

Why don't you think it's the battery? Have you tried to jump it? Have you gotten the battery tested? Autozone does it for free you know. Usually when a car does not turn on, it's a problem with the battery....But you think it's because the car is missing the cap to the gas tank? lol... if you run a car with out a cap the check engine light will come on fuel systems are sealwed so yes it is possible put a cap on it pull off poss battery cable for a few min put it back on and try to start it this will reset the computerif its 95 or older; its a obd1 car. no lights will come on, but it will evaporate the fuel quicker, and will get water and other undesirables in the fuel tank. if its a 96 or newer,(obd2 car) it will turn on the check engine light, and have a po440 code. it will also do all of the other things i mentioned. a lack of gas cap will not make the car not start and run. you must clear the code with a scanner. you cannot do it by disconnecting the battery.

No, it isn't due to leaving the gas cap off. Does it not turn on at all? (Do lights or radio come on and stay on when trying to start it?) Does it turn over but not start? or not turn over at all?Car hums when car is started and only when i decelerate?
If not turning on at all (no lights, radio, or anything comes on), it could very well be the battery, or something that is staying on and draining the battery, or a bad alternator so the battery didn't get charged abck up like it should.

If lights and radio come on, but it isn't turning over, it could be a bad starter or relay, or a weak battery.
