Im taking it in to the shop Friday but wanted to get an idea of what was going on. Thanks!

2002 Civic EX IAT sensor help (cold air intake)?
may be a bearing, in one of the pulleys.Idle pulley or pulley tensioner, because if there where another thing ,that may be doing something more than just whining.
Without hearing the "whinning sound", it would be consistent with an altenator bearing needing attention.
IT IS MOST LIKELY ONE OF YOUR BELTS. IT CAN BE AS SIMPLE IF ITS NOT YOUR TIMMING BELT. YOUR TIMING BELT CAN BE VERY EXPENSIVE TO FIX BECAUSE THE SHOP HAS TO POSSIBLE DROP YOUR ENGINE TO GET TO IT. THIS USUALLY HAPPENS IF YOU HAVENT CHANGED YOUR BELTS(SINCE YOU HAVE HAD THE CAR). IT WONT DAMAGE YOUR CAR BUT JUST MAKE YOUR CAR SOUND LIKE A HOOPTIE. HOME REMEDY FOR ME WAS TO OPEN THE HOOD LISTEN TO WHICH BELT AND HAVE SOMEONE, IF NOT YOURSELF ADD HOT CANDLE WAX TO THE BELT. SOUNDS CRAZY BT IT WORKS. GOOD LUCK WITH THE CAR.
Ford power steering systems are notorious whiners...check your power steering fluid and make sure it is full. It may just be a Ford thing, but I agree that you should have it checked out
