How much HP can you get out of a 3.0L?

I'm getting a 2001 Ford Ranger 3.0L for a work truck for dirt cheap and I would like to build the engine a little. Its comes stock 150 HP.
Does anyone know how many horses I can gett out of it with just
bolt-on performance parts? I have a 4.6L but I'm saving it for something else. I carry some heavy tools in my truck so I need more muscle...like over 200 HP if its possible. I'm not looking to put a turbo charger on it, at least not yet.

A 3.0L is around 183 cubic inches. It's very easy to get 183 horsepower out of the engine. The absolute theoretical horsepower you can get is 4 per cubic inch but due to heat and friction loses etc., you can't do it. With roller rockers, roller lifters, cam, polished ports, large exhaust and a computer chip, you can bump your horsepower up to about 225. Nitrous, a turbo, compression increase, and other speed shop add ons, you can get up to about 360 hp but anything more is going to start being very costly.

what size pulley do I put on a 2400 RPM motar to spin a compressor with a 14 inch pulley at 1200 RPM or less?

buy another vehicle that thing is hopeless.

Well it all depends on you want to do.A cold air intake will add 10-15,a chip 5-10.But I would say don't waste your time or money on a 3.0....gl.

The best thing to do is look for a power programmer to open up the most power gains on what you have. Another way to open up a motor for cheap is changing the cam and throttle body. With doing so, I would have the heads ported and polished. Look for another manifold and install some dual exhaust. Also look into a new air intake system. All of those would easily boost you to around the 275-325 range. Depending on the type of performance you are looking into get.

you can fit a 454 in the ranger if you take out teh heater core. =)but i wouldnt put any money into a ranger, it typically is a black hole, you dont get it back. do small things like intake, exhaust, pulleys...

A jillion! Any mods you make to that motor will destroy it in the long run. You can get plenty of HP if you want a truck that will only run for 50k miles. Buy a sports car.

To get to around 200 Hp in your truck it would take about 1250-1500 bucks. The cheapest and best way is a programmer, module, or chip (They are around 300. They all do the same thing....They increase fuel and air, and timing ect. You can get those at www.jetchip.com or look for superchips namebrand. Another quick fix that is cheap is a KandN airfilter they are about 50 bucks. As for the cold air intake. Those are around 250-300 and arent worth it cause they might give you 4-5 Hp and they actually decrease torque and Hp at low RPMs and Increase HP and TQ at high RPMs since most people who buy this are into high-revving sport compacts. Now when you are halling you need more low RPM power.The jetchip or programmer would give you about 15-17 Hp and 24 torqe. And to hall stuff around you really need torque

Ford Ranger is one of the WORST vehicles if you want performance. I would trade up to something with more power rather than waste my money trying to turn a Ranger into a Supercar.
