How do I check the differental fluid on a Navigator?

Question:
My buddy just bought a Navigator and the rear end is making a noise, and I can't find the filler plug? Any Suggestions?

Answers:

is there any way of telling if the mileometer on a car has been tampered with?

Both of the above answers are correct, depending on the year. 2003 to current use an independent rear suspension setup, while the 1998 to 2002 models use a live rear axle. If it's making a noise, the bearings may have worn out, and need replacing. The correct fluid for this vehicle is 75W140, by the way. Depending on whether he has the "locking" rear end or not, he'll need to add the friction modifier additive, when servicing to fluid.

where can I get a jack handle for 2002 toy0ta p.u. ? besides dealer. (in L.A)?

look where the drive shaft goes into the rear diff. follow the diff casing on the drivers side towards the top of the diff, it should be a 3/8 drive square plug. fill it until fluid runs out of the hole reinstall pug hand tight. but to check it stick your finger in the hole, the fluid level should be up to the hole.
