Question:
Aside from adding a nice shine, and maybe claiming to have a UV inhibitor, does Car Wax really do anything to protect modern car finishes?

A good wax can help keep particles from the atmoshere that fall on the paint from damaging the paint, as well as bird droppings, tree sap, tar, protection of the clear coat to name a few. Here's a little experiment for you, wax one side of the engine hood & leave the other wax free. Now run some water over the entire hood...see the difference? There's a barrier between the clear coat & the paint. It may not be a perfect solution but it sure beats having no protection...not to mention a higher resale value due to your taking the time to protect your investment.
Absolutely. It will help delay the degradation of your factory clear-coat, and they should have instructions on when you should start waxing, as some models recommend a year delay or so. Depends on what they have applied. If you can't find it in your manual, your dealer should know. After that period, you are helping to delay rust and color fade by waxing.

I personally hate waxing - but I hate paying for a paint job more.
yes it helps to protect the paint from harsh chemicals and road film.it also keeps the paint from getting dull.
How much does a front bumper cost?
Wax protects new or old paint in the same way. It reduces oxidation and fading, resists water spotting and acid rain damage and prevents clear coat failure. These waxes combine durable protection and looks:
-Klasse
-Collinite
-Zaino
Since these are not always locally available, you may have to buy these online. Duragloss has an excellent and inexpensive line that they sell at Carquest and NAPA stores. Duragloss is just as good looking and also very durable. NuFinish is very durable but not very shiny.
