Its either your alternator or regulatorLocation of Crankshaft Sensor on 1991 3.1 olds cutlass?
It means that the electrical system has less than 12 volts across it. This probably means your voltage regulator (an internal component on your alternator) has died. there are other potential explanations, but this is the most common. What does shaving cream do to a car?
it means the alternator is not charging the battery.it could be a number of things a loose wire, broken fan belt or worn brushes in the alternator. its cheaper to change the graphite brushes yourself than buy a new alternator. it should only cost a couple of dollars. when you this check the condition of the copper disk or ring that the brushes come in contact with. just to make sure it still has plenty of copper left, it should have, if the brushes havent been renewed multiple times in the past.
