Which valve cover are you referring to? Is it the passenger side, or driver side valve cover you are having difficulty with? If it's the driver side valve cover, you need to remove the upper intake first (4 torx screws on the 5.0L emblem, 4 bolts and 2 long bolts under the emblem) to gain access. Once removed, you will need to remove the six valve cover bolts on each cover, and do what mister ss says with the rubber mallet. Hope this helps.
