'86 Trans Am engines?

Question:
I have an '86 Trans Am that I am going to be restoring. It currently has a 350 TPI with blown head gaskets.I am considering having it bored out to a 383 or should I go for a crate engine like another 350,383 or upgrade to a 454.I understand if I go to a big block I will have to upgrade the suspension as well.Just looking for some thoughts on this.Right now the car is numbers matching.Should I keep it that way or just go for the power?

Answers:

how do i find out what engine i have?

Keep it numbers matching. If you decide to change intake or carb for better performance keep all the original parts, in time this will make it worth a lot more money. I have several mustangs and mopars that I have collected over the years and numbers cars are worth 3 to 4 thousand more than non numbers cars.

about how much does a new ignition switch cost? I have a 1997 Geo Prizm?

You can have power and keep numbers matching, with the money you will spend on a crate engine you could have a stroker kit put in the 350 which involves more than boring the cylinders
