Question:
My wife has a 2000 golf...there is a plastic shield that is right underneath the engine compartment, seemingly to protect your engine from things jumping up into it. However, over time, this shield has broken it's clips and is now to the point where it just hangs and drags on the ground...we have tried zip-tying it, but it is now beyond zip-tying...Is it really necessary to be there? Can I just have it taken off, or should I have it either replaced or have someone attempt to re-attach it professionally?

Swaping 4 bolt to 5 bolt rear axle for Ford Fairmont/Zephr?
Without it, dirt, mud or other debris can be kicked up into the cooling fans or accessory belts. That could be a problem. On some vehicles these shields are also designed to improve airflow for engine cooling, so normally I don't recommend removing them.Where can I send samples of transmission fluid to be sure my mechanic used the right stuff?

you can just take them off. Theyre just there so you scrape that rather than something like an oil pan. We took my sisters (its a bug, but same idea) off a long time ago.

Mazda B4000 anti theft system wont allow it to start?
its not so much to protect anything since it is plastic but really for aerodynamics and airflow to the engine compartment. Also alot of these cars have the air filter near the bottom of the car and this protects it from getting water in the air housing. I would get a new one if it were my car. Dealer you will spend about $200 for the plate and a little more if you need all the screws and clips.More Questions & Answers ...
