What is the knock sound when I turn and back up?

Question:
I put my car in the ditch 2 years ago. I am now just hearing what I did to it. Anyone know what parts it has effected in the front end and how much it will cost to fix it?

Is it a bad idea to only replace a clutch disc rather than the whole kit,ie new pressure plate, bearing, etc?

If it's a "CLICK,CLICK,CLICK" sound coming from the front of the car while backing up with the wheel turned to one side then it's definitely the CV Joint. Most likely the direction you are turning the wheel when backing is the side that is bad. You can have the entire unit replaced with a remanufactured one for around $150.00 total at any repair shop. Cars don't have King Pins, trucks do.

it could be a number of things,if its front wheel drive it could be an axle ( halfshaft ) or kingpin , in all cases it could be a upper or lower a frame bushing , tie rod end , ball joint , sway bar support bolts could be worn or it could be as simple as a rubber bushing on a shock is worn to the point it may be gone.its hard to say without looking at it. i suggest you get out the phone book and call around to some tire /alignment shops and find one that will give you a free estimate on repairing it that way they will give you a list of what needs to be replaced and go from there
