Question:
i have a 2005 impala, it has 50,000 miles on it.
my car runs fine if i let it sit for a few days, after a few days of driving it and some rain, it wouldnt stay started, it would start but the idle is sooo rough! the rpm gauge goes all over the place then it stalls out. i took it to the shop when it broke down the first time and they really didnt know what was wrong with it, they replaced a wire, he didnt even charge me for it cuz he said he knows he didnt fix it but it was running fine. 3 days later it rained, and i went outside to go to work and it wouldnt start...2 days of it sitting...started right up and drove it to the shop! the car has been at the shop for a week and its running fine everytime it starts the guy said. help me! i want my car fixed!

at last check, a 2005 impala would have a distributorless ignition system. so, not the cap. could have a bad set of spark plug wires, have your mechanic use a spray bottle and spray a mist of water over the wires with the car running to see if he can get the car to act up. does your car have the 3.4 or 3.8 liter engine? could also be a problem with the ignition module.Step by step guide on how to install a foglight bulb in a 2002 nissan sentra?
probably secondary ignition ,i would replace distributor cap & rotor, the wire are also probably bad and i would replace them as well, dont forget the plugs, you could check it by starting the car,and with a sprya bottl spray the wires down and if you got balls touch them,if you get zapped, you need wires, good luck, you might as well do a full tupe, with fuel and air fitersStalling and hard starting on 99 Expedion?
Have your wiring harness checked out. This sounds like a short somewhere when the wiring is wet. This means that somehow the wiring harness is getting wet when it rains. That is obviously a bad thing. I think replacing the spark plug leads, the distributor cap and maybe the alternator would be a good idea. How long does it take to drain a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee battery?
I also think you need to go to another mechanic. For a second opinion.
Ok, first of all, you guys/gals who said the change the distributor cap, don't answer anymore questions and put your tool box away. You don't have any clue as to what you are talking about. to the fellow that used the source "My dad is a mechanic", that doesn't make you a mechanic and you should spend some time in his shop and learn a few things.
How can i remove a wiper arm on a 96 s10?
Now, to answer the question, the fellow above me is correct, this car does NOT have a distributor. The first thing I would look at on this car would be the crank sensor behind the harmonic balancer. This critical ignition component would have the most exposure to moisture and is usually the first thing to go bad on these cars. Start you car and spray some water under the engine, if it cuts out or misses, replace the sensor. Otherwise, you have a short in the wiring harness that gets affected by rain, and in that case you will need to change the wiring harness. Finding the short would be next to impossible and cost ineffective.

i would go with a new set of plugs and wires if they had not been replaced lately and or have it hooked up to a scanner to diganois the problem ,this will lead you in the right directionMy sunroof cover is off its track?

if its got a distributer cap on it,do like i did once on a 67 chevy caprice once.i put electrical tape around on the inside of the cap,to keep the moisture out.it would jump around when its raining,or maybe you could spray some wd-40 inside the cap.More Questions & Answers ...
