Question:
I have a 2001 Ford Escort. 155,000 miles. North Carolina climate. Well maintained car - - no problems. Usually takes Motorcraft 5w-20 oil and that is what the manual recommends. But I accidentally had 5w-30 put in the car this time around on the oil change. Should I have the oil redone or will it be fine for one oil change until next time? My dad isn't an expert, but he says he's heard it will hurt the cam.
Answers:
Leaking antifreeze on a 2000 ford ranger.?
A small increase in viscosity shouldn't hurt it. If you had put in a very thick oil, like 10w40 or 20w50, I might worry a little, but only a difference of 10 shouldn't hurt it. It may actually help it a little by staying on friction surfaces longer, which is nice with a motor pushing 160k miles where the clearances between these surfaces are beginning to increase due to wear.At 155k it should not hurt until your next change
you should change it every 3000 miles... 30 is ok but would change it the next time...
Don't worry about it at all. The car will be fine all the miles a bit heavier oil wouldn't hurt a bit. The clearances are looser now.
Laguna Automatic gear question?
It won't hurt the cam. Being in NC I would probly switch to 10w30 since your car is starting to get the miles on it. Just make sure you don't ever use pennzoil. ;)More Questions & Answers ...
