I have steam coming from my heater vents what could be the cause?

the car is a 1.7td astra 1998 with the vauxhall engine.

i own a repair shop,and usually when you see this it means you have a busted heater core on it ,this is what ,makes the steam,check the coolant level and see if its starting to drop a little ,if it hasn't ,it soon will ,but you,ll have to have this replaced or you,ll loose all your coolant from it,plus it may ,make a big mess on the inside of the car also,good luck,i hope this help,s.

Sounds like the heater core is bad. You will probably also smell antifreeze (which has a sweet kind of smell to it) inside the vehicle. Usually you can disconnect the two heater hoses at the firewall and join them together with a hose connector and a couple of clamps you will avoid leaking and stop the problem until you have the heater core replaced. You won't have any heat until the hoses go back where they belong so hopefully you live in a warm climate area.

You will no longer have any heat. Junk that car.
