Battery and Alt. Belt problems... Please Help?

I was having problems with my battery keeping a charge and so I bought a new one. I had already been having problems with a belt making a squealing noise before this. And one day it broke. I had it replaced , but now it is squealing again and now the new battery is not keeping a charge. Anyone know what this might mean? Any help is greatly appreciated.

From your description , it looks like the alternator pulley is stalling or freezing. When a pulley freezes, it creates a squelling sound. This is because of the friction between the pulley and the belt. When this happens, the alternator does not rotate well and thus do not charge. So you might want to have this check. It might be that your alternator is busted.

Sounds like the alternator isn't charging the battery. Replace the alternator.

It sounds like the bearing in your alternator is going. Take it to Autozone, or in fact, just drive the whole vehicle there. They will be able to test it on or off the car for free.

i own a repair shop,and usually this means the alternator is going out on it,,since you already replaced the battery ,,then it has to be the alternator on it,,you can take it by any auto zone and have the check it,,this can be done while its on the car,,good luck hope this help,s.
