My Ford Fiesta Diesel 1.8 (1990) vibrates badly on tick over?

It is inside a metal cover that the upper radiator hose connects to, not on the radiator side but on the engine side - you should only need to take off 2 bolts and it will come loose PAY ATTENTION to its orientation, these are one way valves, if you put in the new one the wrong way you will ruin your engine. Make sure both metal surfaces are clean (the head, and the metal cover) the new thermostat will come with a gasket (I always oil it slightly so it compresses better and seals). Put in the thermostat and put on the gasket then put on the cover and tighten the bolts. (don't break them this is not a really high pressure system here)
