Is it easier to hook up the transmission and the motor then put it in?

im puttin a new angine in my 85 ford ranger but i dunno if it would be easier to put the transmission and the motor in at the same time or put the transmissions in then the motor?

It's a lot easier to put them In as a unit on just about any vehicle that is rear wheel drive The expectation being vans ads there is not enough clearance to fit past firewall.

All cars and trucks are different, Yes It would be easier to put both trans and motor in together. That's how the factory does it, they are all about saving time. If it were a front wheel drive vehicle and you were just swapping out the engine I would suggest to just pull and replace the engine with out the trans attached. When they put the motor and trans into a front wheel drive car they install everything from underneath the car. Putting the motor into a Truck or rear wheel drive vehicle is a whole lot easier to put engine and trans in together. Helpful HINT, be sure to pull the radiator out and take your front grill off to keep from damaging them.

I have done it both ways.Attached to the engine and not attached to the engine.It depends on what you mean by easy.If you attach the tranny first,just remember your gonna need to angle the motor alot more so the tranny can get under the the floor of the truck while pushing the motor and tranny in.Most People do it this way only if the grill and front clip is off.A ranger isnt hard to take out or put a transmission in but if you still have the front clip on it,I would leave the tranny detached from the engine and install the engine first and then put the tranny in when your done.This is just my personal experience with installing motors.The only reason that the factory installs them with them both attached is because the front clip is already off the vehicle.Good luck.

It would depend on what type of equipment you have.If the tranny is small enough to handle on your own do it separately just line up the spline.I've done this before on smaller trannys and it's a easy job.If you have an A frame or a hoist it would make sense to do it he other way.

Ford Ranger is a rear wheel drive pickup. If you have an A frame and a 3 Tonnes hoist then you can put it in attached to one another, engine and transmission. But if you don't have the proper equipment an A frame and hoist it would be more easier to install first the engine as it would be easier to do so. Then install the transmission. Wella its' done.
