Do some SUV's require to have their oil changed sooner than 3,000 miles?

Question:
I have an Izusu Trooper that I bought a couple of months ago. When I went to get the oil changed the first time (at 2,900 miles) the people said there was little oil in it but the oil light was not on. Now I am about 150 miles away from a change and my oil light is randomly blinking off and on. There is no noticable leak, I've checked the pavement and parking space. The vehicle is used but in excellent condition. Any advice from those of you who own SUV's would be appreciated!

Sounds like it is using up oil a lot faster than it should. If it is brand new I would take it to the dealership while it is still under warranty and see if it is something they can fix.

When is an engine more likely to leak oil? When it is warm or cold?

you're probably burning oil. you don't change the oil because it runs out...you change the oil because it loses viscosity. in fact, most automobiles don't need an oil change until 7000 miles.

You've got other problems besides 3 months or 3000 miles. It seems your trooper is either burning oil or leaking it.

Your oil light should indicate a loss of oil pressure or low oil level. It does not nor will it ever indicate that the oil needs to be changed.

Why do car tires get stuck in the winter?

Excellent condition is a relative term. Right now your engine is excellently consuming oil, which is something that it should not do. Bet the body and interior look awesome though.

Can anyone out there suggest how I can be fuel efficient.. recently I own a car with petrol consumption..?

Until you can get you engine evaluated to determine whether a gasket replacement, engine rebuild, or engine replacement is in order, get someone to show you how to check your oil level and check it regularly, once a week at the very least.

Also get them to show you how to top off your oil so that you don't run out again.

Problem with 49cc ATV Quad. Idles ok, stalls when accelerating.?

yea, you need to check the oil on occasion. The dip stick in the engine is a good place to try looking at the oil level. You can add oil as needed between oil changes.
You are going to do some pretty good harm to your car if you don't check the oil ever.
