Have you had the alternator checked out? That's where I would start. My car will die while driving and everything shuts off. What is wrong?
Maybe the alternator is causing all your problems.Do car alarms waste battery and or the alternator on older cars.?
Sounds like you have a short in the system , it may be a bad headlight switch thats shorting out and draining power from the battery even when its turned off. i just fixed a problem that is simular to this one. it was the whole harness that works the low&hi beams, wipers, turn signals hazards, this harness sits on the steering colum, Electrical problems should be worked on by professional techs as it can be a handfull without proper tools. Check all wires that are in front of you, alternator, fuses, fuse box, ground wires, battery hook-ups,but DON'T PULL WIRES as to you may start a fire like under the dash.98 chevy suburan tail light fuse blown?
The most likely cause is the alternator. There is an internal voltage regulator that could have gone bad. If you have a voltmeter, place it across the battery terminals, it should read approx. 13.5 to 14.5 volts. If the voltage is too high, this is a good reason why you keep burning out headlights. Also too high and too low voltage readings can cause all kinds of havoc with vehicle electrical systems, much like you are havingwhat makes tail light icon stay on but no lights are blown?
Have your alternator output voltage tested by a mechanic'02 impala low-coolant light on but engine not hot?
