Why are abandoned gas stations painted dark gray?

Every time a gas station around here is empty (change of owners or abandoned) it is painted dark gray. It dosen't matter who owns the building. I have noticed it with all major gas companies. The whole building is painted, doors, windows, trim, everything, and only dark gray. Why

it is because large chains of gas station like chevron or shell, they have a color scheme that makes them easily recognizable. They paint them gray to cover their motto colors and they paint the property more neutral colors to create interest for buyers in reselling it on the open market.
