If the scanner is an actron heres what to do:
1)Turn the key on to the number 2 position. Accesories are on, but the engine is off.
2) Plug in the scanner into the connector
3) Hit Read, the screen should say linking
4) Write down the code number should be pxxxx
If it says code 1 of __ then use number 5
5) Use the arrows to scroll up and down
6)Hit erase, it will ask you if your sure, hit yes, then it will ask you to verify the engine is off, hit enter

Wolfyss has it right, when you hook up the scanner do not start your engine, just turn the key till everything is on.... the scanner will read the codes, then you can scroll through, if you have more than 1 code and erase them.More Questions & Answers ...
