Will Mercury Grand Marquis 4.6L engine, 240Hp tow a 17ft Maxum bowrider boat?

I am soon to purchase Mercury Grand Marquis between the years 1992 -2001. It has 4.6L V8 engine, 240hp. Will the towing of the boat be hard on the car's engine/transmission?

It will tow it with no problem. Your mechanic probably suggested a transmission cooler but if you are only going 4 miles then I wouldn't bother.

How many miles can a vehicle realistically last?

This is not a fairy tale your car isn't gonna be the little engine that could... The engine is made for it but not the transmission unless you have a car that has like four wheel drive in low gear... Then thats a possibility... But overtime you'll overwork your transmission...

No problem but i would put a cooler on the trans because you didn't say if you had any grades to climb in either direction. The cooler will be a small price compared to a new trans.
