Assuming converter is the problem, before you go off and spend your own $$$, know that all emission systems have a 50k warranty (by EPA mandate). Some cars have longer "hidden" warranties. Find the cause of converter clogging and have that fixed, so it doesn't happen again. For example, it could be a bad O2 sensor. Lastly, clogging in the exhaust can warp your exhaust valves, so maybe do a compression check before spending $$$ to make sure major motor damage has not already been done.

I didn't want to pay that expense, so what I did was cut a "V" notch in the front weld of the cat.
