1996 Olds Cutlass Supreme, gets moderatly hot then normal?

Sometimes I have good heat sometimes I have cold air. I replaced the water pump in early January two weeks later the thermostat. I'm leaking coolant but only after I fill the coolant to the max and it's not really alot of coolant (12 inches at best) coming out. I've noticed the hoses get hot. I don't know where all the coolant hoses are. That's another question. I'm not 100% sure what the best method is for clearing air from the system. My brother says to bleed and fill through the sensor (that is not an easy task) but I did it, nothing changed. I Found a small screw that opens a small hole to the thermostat housing. I took it off after I ran the car but I have no idea what to do next with that tiny hole. Ok. The questions are: What makes and engine run hot then cold almost like clock work, sometimes with heat sometimes I get no heat either way? Where are all the coolant hoses besides the two on the radiator? What is the best method for clearing air from your engine?

Be sure there are not any leaks, if they are you must fix that first. There is a bleeder screw on the top of the thermostat housing slightly open it and watch for air bubbles after you see a steady run of coolant close it off, don't seal off the bleeder screw its there to bleed the air off. Second check for leaks on the inside of the vehicle at the floor area if its wet then the heater core is bad and leaking. You must be sure the thermostat is the correct temp as well as make sure the radiator is not plugged, if this don't solve the problem go to a radiator shop and have them do a die and pressure test. JB Weld works like a charm. Take the housing off, sand it really clean and then put the weld on and let it set for a day. That's where your air is coming from. Fix it and you've got your problem solved. Good luck.

well sound like a ac/heater control problem to me- as i under stand you the engine temp is fine?? - but the inside vents are blowing cold.?? if so check all vacuum lines and in the engine bay and under hood mainly to heater valve. in front of the rad there should be a road map for the vacuum lines to show where the heater valve is.

The engine runs hot because there's air in the system, and the water pump cannot move water.
Remove the radiator cap when it's cool. Start the engine and allow to warm up. You will soon see water (antifreeze) flowing fast through the radiator. Massage the upper hose to free air bubbles. Fill radiator to top. (it will splash and make a mess) Put cap back on and massage hose one more time until you feel pressure build up.

Best way to remove air lock in coolant system, eng to Radiator hose.disconnect at radiator, that is the upper one, start eng you should have water comming out ,when temp gauge hits mid range;Now if you are watching from safe side,Kill eng let cool ,reconnect hose,Step #3 start eng and look at your radiator fan does it come on when temp reaches mid range,watch this
closley,thru seven cycles, From your descripition ,I believe fan

One other thing A water pump that is bad you will know it,symptons ,#1 Slinging water,visable.#2 makes a lot of racket.
Your question what makes eng run hot then cold is an erratic fan/I would give some attn: to fan relay.Now the hole that you removed screw from,install screw or bolt with same thred. #3
there are 2 hoses 3/4 inch one from eng and the other one from water pump,these go to firewall and connect to heater coil,that
coolant is your inside heat.There is a fan that blows across
coil when you select it.
