I've got a 350 engine. I'm wanting to put vortec heads with a .480 lift cam in it and a holley carb. I was thinking about a 750 cfm vacuum secondary carb, but I think that might be too big.

it is to big,i own a repair shop,and right now I'm building a Chevy suburban,and a good edelbrock 650 will be plenty of gas for it,that's about the same set up i got ,and even a 600 will run it good,actually a 600 is the ideal set up for it,they wont run too rich at idle,a 650 will,i may switch and go down to a 600 because they do run a lot smoother with them that an 650,id run an edelbrock on it ,a Holley is a good carb but they like to flood out a lot,edelbrock usually give real good performance,good luck with it,i hope this help,s.750 is too big. (low velocity through the venturies)

I learned that you should come pretty close to matching the displacement to the carb size. For example, a Holley 390 cfm would be about right, maybe a bit small for full-on power, but you could probably go with a 485 or even a 600 if you need it. 750 sounds too big.Don't get any larger than a 600 CFM, first....Second, don't get a Holley. Holley carbs are junk, too much rubber. They used to be OK, but they strayed from the Weber design in the late 70's. Order an Edelbrock and put it on a cast iron intake as aluminum intakes like to crack on cast iron blocks. The only rubber part in a Weber is on the needle. The power valve is metallic and you never have problems with them. Good luck.

The general rule is twice your cubic inches at 6000 RPM, if you're not going to be operating in that range a 600 or 650 will do just fine.Vacuum secondaries work well with automatic transmissions, I prefer the Carter type carbs. but they are harder to tune out do to more scarce parts, tuning parts for Holley's are everywhere.
