My Abs light on my 2002 Mercury mountaineer is staying on, and now in the last few days the brake light is intermittent? What is going on? I want an idea before I take it in,,and I get sold a bunch of stuff I don't need done.

You may have two problems, if the brake light in the dash comes on it could be slightly low on brake fluid which might indicate worn linings on your brake pads. your ABS light coming on indicates a problem with the ABS system. You need to have the system scanned to see where the problem might be. There are wheel speed sensors at both front hubs & one in the rear differential. Those are usually what fail. Before going to the dealer, shop around. There are a lot of good mechanics out there that have a conscience(don't know if that word is spelled right) & can take care of your vehicle for a reasonable rate. Make sure they are reputable & have a written warrantytrouble starting diesel engine in the rain?

2002 have individual wheel sensors at each wheel, it could be as simple as a bad connection, or a bad sensor esspecilly with the brake light being intermittent. Is the intermittent break light red or amber? Red light ussually means low fluid, and the amber is ABS light which means it's an ABS related problem.Where to put new tires: front or back?
