How do you remove a starter from a 1992 Chevy truck i cant get it down the exhaust is in the way.?

it will not come off but it is 1989 camro with a 1992 chevy truck 350 in it. that might be posing the problem what do u think help me out here

if the exhaust is in the way and theres no other way pull the exhaust from the headers or if the headers are in the way pull them off. you would just have to get new exhaust gaskets.

A clashing or grinding condition, may exist, due to improper engagement of the starter to flexplate on some vehicles equipped with 5.0L/V8-305 & 5.7L/V8-350 engines with automatic transmission. To correct this condition, replace the starter drive assembly, with new drive assembly, part No. 10456422, which utilizes a stiffer jump spring allowing for proper engagement. During starter drive assembly replacement, all ring gear teeth should be inspected. If three or more consecutive teeth are damaged, the flexplate should be replaced with flexplate No. 10128414.

Disconnect battery ground cable.
Remove starter braces or heat shields, if equipped.
Disconnect starter solenoid electrical connectors.
Raise and support vehicle.
Remove attaching bolts, nuts and washers from starter motor.
Remove starter motor from engine.
Reverse procedure to install.
