Question:
I own a 1996 Ford Windstar and I have never had any issues with the transmission. It shifts well and on time (it's an automatic), although, it does have 165K miles on it. I am featuring the transmission going out eventually since Fords are notorious for that once you get close to 200K. So far there are no signs of that but I still don't want to take it for granted.
Magnetic Key Box for attaching to car?
I talked to 2 different people regarding my transmission oil... one person said to change it yearly or more. The other said DON'T change it because it's working fine. I know the oil "needs" to be changed (says the Jiffy Lube guy who is a friend of mine) but the guy who told me not to change it has confused me.
I have had the car for 2 years and have not changed it and was going to do so... should I?

can locksmiths change new locks to work for an old key?
The people that said don't change if it has not been changed in a long time are right. If the fluid change is long over due then don't change because the new fluid will break up the old gunk that is built up inside from the old fluid and clog the small internal passages and cause failure. you are better off just topping off if fluid level is low.I would change it for peace of mind. Clean fluid helps the seals, ensuring maximum hydraulic pressure when shifting, meaning less friction while shifting, meaning your tranny lasts longer.
2000 Crown Victoria Tail Lamp?
It's always good to change your fluids on a regular basis. In doing that you can have them check for metal objects due to engine or in your case transmittion wear to see if any heavy deposites are found. Having it checked annually can help you prevent problems before they start.how much would an inexpensive tune-up be for a ford explorer 1996?
IF its never been done, then don't change it. What will happen if you change it at this point is that it will break loose all that old junk in the tranny after all these years and it will start leaking internally, and it will start missing shifts. If its never been done leave it.If replacing the timing belt on 2000 Honda CRV w/120,000km do I need to replace water pump as well?
If it has been done in the last say 50,000 miles then I would continue to do it every 30,000-40,000 miles.
Don't ever trust Jiffy Lube, even if he is your friend and isn't just trying to sell the service. Before I went to college to earn my associates in automotive I worked for Jiffy Lube, there 3 hour training video does NOT make them mechanics, they know what the video tells them to sell thats it.
Pontiac Grand Prix dead heater and no power in plug?
haha you should change it and the dude who told u that you shouldnt change it is a retard. You should change it even tho it's doing fine becuase you havent changed it in TWO YEARS! the tranny oil must be eating away your seal right about now haha but yea, you should change it and if u keep it doing basic works on your truck like that it should keep going above 200,000hints on colling system pajero 1990?
you should change it now....Why can't I fill up my gas tank??
no- hes not a retard. it is true that if a transmission is still working, but on its last leg, changing the fluid can bring on the end. not usually, but it happens, ive seen it, and i always advise my customers before changing when at this many miles. its best to keep it changed regularly, but at his point it could shorten the life, (could, not will). by the way, when they look at the metal in the pan, they will probably say rebuild it, its shot, would you look at all that debris... yes, but its not time for a rebuild until it stops working. avoid a flush service at this point, just change the filter and fluid. flushes seem to do the worst on high mileage trannys. (flushes are good, i just dont recommend them with this many miles)If you don't know the history of the vehicle and you are not sure if the transmission fluid has never been changed, I would leave it alone! If there is no problem then why fix it? I have a 1998 Caravan sitting at my shop (repair) that now needs a transmission. The lady was not having any transmission issues just wanted to have it serviced (never has been before, high miles!) Two days after the service it went out completely! So leave yours be!
