Question:
its a 1987 chevy cheyenne and the automatic tranny needs to be replaced anyways cause it cant go backwards.
Answers:
What can I do to improve handling does Lowering work and cost alot of money? How much?
just find a replacement, or fix yours. yes you can out a stick, or manual trans in it, but really, by the time you buy all the pieces you need to change it over, you could have fixed your old one. Its probably not that bad off if all the forward gears work. Anyway you would need a flywheel, pedals and linkage, pivots, diveshaft, or maybe just some work on yours, they add up fast. AND when its done, you have devalued your truck badly. Standard transmission trucks bring alot less and are harder to sell. they are a ***** in traffic, women hate them, and the shifter is always in the way. Just fix it.How much to replace a fuel pump on a 2002 Pontiac Sunfire Se?
Yes, a very expensive and long endeavor. What happens if I get water in my engine through my air intake?
Find a local ATRA certified shop and have the transmission repaired. Do not go to a tranny store like AAMCO or MrTransmission.
Yes...but the cost would be about twice what a replacement tranny would cost. There are all kinds of modifications, including welding in a clutch pedal, and cutting the floorboards, new linkage....also changing things like the speedometer cable, speed sensor....your talking lots of hours of work and $$$$

Also if all your missing is reverse on this age truck, its probably just the one way clutch, about a $25 part. It includes partial tranny tear down but still probably have it all done for less than $300
