What is the weight of the intake and exhaust valves on a 1 cylinder engine?

Question:
the intake is larger, but my auto shop teacher says that the smaller exhaust valve is heavier. maybe due to additives in the steel to make it resistant to heat?

Answers:

Does anyone know where i can get a owners Manuel for 2005 for Taurus?

I'm not a mechanic, but as a guess: The exhaust valve would appear to operate in a more hostile environment due to the exhaust gases and the pressure that they would exit at. This would appear to require a denser (stronger) construction for the valve .

Apparently i have a weak lifter on my 1987 GM 350 engine with only 3000 miles on it.How cost effective is.....

Go with what the shop teacher is telling you - he is the one that gives you the grade. ;-)

Anyone familiar with old Fordson Major tractors?

while it may be true that a particular valve weighs more than another there is no rule that the exhaust valve should or will weigh anymore than the intake. Depending on the valve maufacturer there are a whole range of materials to choose from(ti-chrome-moly).
