Question:
I have this 2000 Ford F-150, it is having trouble engaging the front diff so it can shift into 4x4 properly, if I shift into 4x4 at like 30 mph it grinds if I am moving very slow it doesn't. Its not the transfer case or the front diff, it is a vaccume problem. What are the things that go bad on these? Any advice

On this truck you can engage 4WD high at any speed up to 55 mph. (4 Low is only in neutral)By the sound of it, the shifter lever assembly in the front differential that locks the wheels to the axle broke.. Common problem.. see a Ford dealer for more info....
It uses vaccum to move a little vaccum motor attached to this rod.. check for vaccum at the motor (it has a cover over it) by having someone cycle the 4 wd while watching the motor.. if the rod moves, you have internal problems to front diff.. sorry
