Roll bars. Seat belts, Helmet. Then you can race on it. You might not win till you get a faster car than the one you have now.First: a fire extinguisher. Next, I'd suggest a 5 or 6 point harness, and a roll cage. Anything else depends on what kind of racing you're going to do, and what modifications they allow. Don't start changing things until you know what they'll let you change. You don't want to spend all that money, only to be told to change it back again! All forms of racing have rules stating what safely equipment you must have, and what performance mods you are allowed to have.

look up www.SCCA.com and read the rules for the solo 2 and 3 class racing. Entry level racing that is fun and cheap, any class of car can race on an autocross circuit. Just need to make sure you pass the tech inspection.
How hard is it to install new gauges on the dashboard?
most of the time you need a battery hold down thats better than the stock one. They check your tires to make sure they arent bald. check your brake lines for cracks and to make sure they dont leak. other than that its pretty much easy to get started in racing.....

Just dont try to race on the street..its illegal number 1, Dangerous number 2, and death is permanent if you kill yourself on the street racing. Scca makes sure that all the cars are safe, and the track is safe and there are EMT crews on standby if anything DOES happen.
