How much does it generally cost to switch a manual to an automatic??

Question:
I might buy an 04 Lancer, but would like it to be automatic. Just wondering what it would cost me.

Answers:

where is the sump plug located on a P reg vauxhall astra estate?

well, the cost to swap my auto to a manual in my probe gt was around $3000. The total was $3700, but i sold the automatic for $700.
I could have saved $2700 if i did it myself, but at the time, i didnt have a garage, and i didnt know a single person in the state.
Theres a few things that you could do.
#1. This by far would be the cheapest:
start looking at local mitsubishi car clubs in your area. There are always going to be plenty of enthusiasts who would want to swap their automatic for a manual, and you might be able to make some kind of deal with them. part for part, equal trade, and you might even be able to get the person to help with your swap if you helped with his swap. So it would basically cost you a pony keg of beer and a case of tranny fluid. of course, your not going to be able to get this deal if your cars tranny has 100,000+ miles on it.
#2. 2nd cheapest
is to purchase a wrecked auto lancer, take what you need then part or junk it. The only problem i would see with this, is that its not a very common car, so parts might be difficult to locate. Youd have to hit up an online parts/car finder, and those are more expensive then your standard junkyards.
#3. 3rd cheapest:
Peice by peice.
If it is not your daily driven car, and you do not mind the down time, you could purchase peice by peice when you find good deals. (i think ive told the story about my friend who turbod his 04 si for under $300... it took him two years to get the parts, but its running great, and was turbod for $300)
you would need the ecu, the transmission, the interior parts, flex plate, tranny pump, relays... i think thats it, if anyone else thinks of something i forgot, please post it.
Total cost would more then likely be around $2000 for parts+ $1500-2500 for labor ..depending on respected mechanic... if you dont have a regular, the best way to find a good mechanic is ask around, if you dont ever leave your home, call mechanics in the phone book, and ask them how long the waiting list is... if you have to wait 3 weeks, this is the guy you want to go to. Hes got a massive amount of cars to work on, therefore, people take their cars to him. If you find a mechanic that says he can start working on it tommorow, hang up instantly, do not say hello, do not give him your name, if he has caller id and calls back, once again, hang up immediatly and call your phone company to have his phone number permenatly blocked.
#4. finally, the dreaded dealer.
Take your cars worth and double it. This would be the cost for the dealer to do the swap.... $6000 for parts, $3000 for labor.

how can i flush fuel system?

i own a repair shop, and really on this car its not possible to do,the transmission you,ll need for it is computer controlled, and the wiring harness in the car will not support a automatic transmission harness, even if you have all the other parts to do it with it still wouldn't work right, the factory didn't make these harnesses to support an automatic,so it would be wiser to trade it and get an automatic, you,d wind up with an un -drivable car in the end ,good luck i hope this help,s.
