I HAVE A 283 BORED 30 OVER, 600 EDELBROCK, HI RISE INTAKE, HEADERS, JUST REBUILT. WHAT SIZE OF CAM DO I NEED FOR 1/4 MILE WITH THE LOPE IN IT I GOTTA HAVE THAT LOPE SOUND. DONT CARE BOUT THE GAS MILEAGE JUST WANT THE POWER. THANKS

What pistons did you use? What is the compression ratio? 9.5 to 1? 10:1 ? You can go to www.summitracing.com and they have a tech line to call. It's free and they will tell you what will fit. If you don't have pistons with reliefs cut in them , you can't get the lift you need to get the choppy sound you want You will here a mild lope maybe. Talk to Summit , they are very educated and have helped me with many projects over the years.My 2005 Nissan Sentra cranks excessively when starting. Does anyone know what the problem is?

Go to the Gee Emm parts bin. I used to have a 327 Vette that had a wonderful stock 365 HP hi-po motor. That solid lifter OEM cam had a sound that was music to an enthusiast's ears.when you are new in town who can you trust to work on your car?
It depends a lot on how much weight you're pushing around though. 283 cubes isn't much to move a lot of weight, so a heavy car wouldn't stand much aggressiveness in the cam department.
The more duration the more lope.
You never said how many RPM you are planing to twist it.
The more duration the less low end power it will have.

Crowler stage 2 cam. Even the 327 /365 hp cam sounds good but it is solid lifters and you have to have the lifters and some things that go on top of the rocker studs called poly locks to lock the adjustment s on the valves down to the right tightening specs or you will be adjusting the valves every 500 mi without them. Both have great low end to mid range torgue. Idle it at about 600-650 rpms and you will hear that blat en blat bla blat bla blat you want to hear. Or since I don't always read the latest HotRod Mag ask your local speed shop what lift and duration you can get for more of that sound. First thing. If someone tells you to get a 3/4 cam then you don't o listen to them because they haven't a clue what they are talking about. That said, I'm assuming (yes I know that's dangerous) that you have pistons of at least 10.0 to 1. Perhaps the best cam for your wished for lope would be a 488/292 with a 109 degree center line.More Questions & Answers ...
