78 ford ltd won't run in cold?

I just bought a 78 ford ltd w/400 engine it turns over just fine but when I try to drive it dies. It drove fine out of storage and engine only has 60k I was told to adjust choke but can't find it. It idles a bit high about 1000. I don't know really anything about carburaters or old cars please help

See if anyone in your neighbourhood has experience with carbs. You yourself can look to see if any vacuum lines are broken or disconnected.

its the choke. your best bet is to get an in-cab choke cable that you can buy at your local parts store, that way you can mess with the choke in the cab to keep it running.

If its a 78 you should have a knob on the inside for the choke if not you will find a metal wire attached to the carburetor that you can adjust with a screwdriver. The screw will be on the drivers side of the carburetor. Just turn it and listen to the idle.

The Carb needs to be cleaned and the choke is sticking. get a bottle of carb cleaner and pour it in. Then replace spark plugs. Almost forgot also get the spray carb cleaner in the can too.

I'm guessing you don't have a garage. go to your mechanic and get a block heater installed. It keeps the engine warm at night. Of course you need to buy a long extension cord too so you can plug it in at night. That's what we used in North Dakota and it worked just fine.
