these vehicles have the signal/hazard combo flasher in the middle of the dash just above the radio and ive replaced many of them for this problem...does the sound come from inside of vehicle? near the centre dash? thats it!IT'S A TIME BOMB! RUN!!!!!!!!!
You may be hearing the hydraulic valve lifters clicking in the engine. They tend to start doing that after a while.

First check your oil, Ticking most commonly is caused by overheating from low oil which in turn wears the valvetrain. also could be the timing belt slapping the timing cover if so equipped. Also it could be preigntion from carbon buildup in the combustion chamber, another common problem, it makes the heat and compression higher causing the motor to spark out of time and "pre-ignite" most commonly called pinging. get that checked out could be something that could blow your motor. good luck.
How big is your key chain it may be swiping the steering colunm.
