Our automatic car window on the driver's side has crapped out, and it's down... It's snowing right now in Detroit, and tomorrow we have to drive downtown. How much would it cost to repair this window? We have very little money. My Mother is having a panic attack, and I googled it and tried pulling up the window, but that did not work at all. We are not technical people. Please help, if you can give an estimate, it would be greatly appreciated.

if you are not mechanically gifted do not try to repair this your self it will end up costing you more.try taping a plastic bag over it.depending on the vehicle this could cost between 100.00 and 1,000.00 dollars.......................... could be something as simple as a switch for around 110.00 or a window motor for around 250.00 depending on were you live.if they try and sell you both it was miss diagnosed the first time and they are covering their butts.How do I go about removing a fuel rail from a 1994 ford ranger 4 cyl.?
check the fuses first,trying to move the window with ice could have blown one,your owners manual shoul be able to guide you through that. If not, it could be the switch, not too expensive or the motor which would cost more .A mechanic could get to the switch and bypass to get the window up for now, if its the switch.2003 Dodge Stratus Malfunction Indicator Light Keeps Comming On As Thermostat?
hoping this might help you.. providing that you had no previous noise, when you let the window down, do this while holding the button in up position..knock the crap out of the inside of the driviers door just below the arm rest... sometimes the motor will unlock just enough to get the window up... but if you press the control and you can hear the motor running, then the regulator control has broken and it will not let up..if so, try and pull the window up and use tape to hold it up...but if the glass is too far down, that you can't pull up , then you will have to pull the inside door panel..but after typing this.. have you checked the fuses, and does all the other windows work? let me know.. yeah save the door your lack of experiance and make yourself a card board frame inside the window with a hole in the card board where you can see enough to be safe and see the mirror. if I could draw it, it would make it easier to explain. basically you need a cardboard box big enough to fit in the window then make two holes one shaped like a triangle for the mirror and one a oval or rectangle to see traffic like at a stop light. Then take some cerian wrap or what ever clear plastic the thicker and clearer the better, duct tape and staple a layer on the outside and inside of the holes. Finish by inserting the completed piece of cardboard to the window and taping the crap out of it(more the better).well It would help to know what kind of car it would be. there are two problems that it could be. Either your window switch could be fried or it is your window regulator. your best bet would to go to a auto wreckers to see if they have a window switch for your vehicle if its not that then it is your window regulator.

more than likely the motor burnt up and will have to be replaced, GM dealers will want about $200.00 for the motor alone plus the labor to do it, you can buy the motor at the parts store for around $65.00 and find someone that repairs cars to fix it, will be a lot cheaper.More Questions & Answers ...
