What exactly is involved in prepping a non-california car to pass CA Emmissions?

Question:
What needs to be done, can it be done myself? The vehicle I'll be doing this to is a 97-00 Jeep Wrangler.

Universal? Fuel Pump?

I'll be moving from Boston to Southern California. I'm considering buying one before I move out there if its feesible.

Brake light swithch?

There is no "prep". The serial number of the vehicle will tell the tester what state it was sold in and how it should be equipped. There is nothing to be added onto the car. It just should be in good operating condition and all the original smog equipment installed and working. California cars sold new here have some differnt standards, but they would not apply to a used car brought here. When you get here just register the car with the DMV and they will give you a bit of time to get it smog checked.

In all auto parts stores including "Wallyword" you'll find in the gasoline additive area products to add to the gas to help pass emissions testing.

How do you remove the sump protector on the freelander do you have to drill out the rivets?

"IF" the Jeep is stock and has all the original emissions and original equipment, it should pass their emissions test. You may have to have it "TWEAKED" by a certified technician in California.
You do not have to do anything until it is time to renew your plates and registration.
You can also go on-line to California Emissions Testing to get more information.
